John Alton Duncan passed away today. Uncle Jack was a great man - the kind of uncle that every little boy dreamed of having. He was an attorney (Queens Counsel), who later became a federal judge. He was a fireman / chief - who took us for firetruck rides in which ever engine we chose! He had a new car almost every time we saw him. He played with the most amazing model train set that you’ve ever seen. He flew model RC airplanes. Better yet, he flew his own Cessna planes - and took us flying with him. He owned a radio station. He was a phenomenal curler. He was a sportsman. He had a farm and let us believe that we were planting crops for him. He knew just about everything, or made you believe that he did anyways. He was argumentative - for fun. He loved nothing more then to get people fired up about some miscellaneous topic, and then leave them to argue about it. He was my mother’s big brother, the one we always had to check with when we made a big purchase or tried something new. He was my uncle and my kids’ great uncle. He was a wonderful man. I am so very happy that my children got to know him, I just wish that they could have known him as well as I did. We will all miss you tremendously Uncle Jack…
We certainly did - enjoy Bethany Beach, that is. We had a wonderful summer, it’s hard to believe that it has come to an end.
Christmas is rapidly approaching! We have a little snow, but the rain is melting most of it away right now. I miss the snow in Cleveland - it was so beautiful in Chagrin around Christmas… Enjoy it, or not, snow is special - especially for children. The kids get so excited when we get the littlest snow falls here in Philly. I’m glad that they’ll have memories of real snow falls though; I’m sure the memories will get better and better and one day their stories will talk of snow falls that piled it on higher then the house! Oh wait, that’s what it was like when I grew up in Montreal, PQ.
Happy Halloween - from a witch, a rastafarian, and the CDC! It was a beautiful night for Trick or Treating - I hope that everyone had as much fun as we did.
…for the Labour Day weekend show! Well, we’re not exactly going to San Fran, but we are heading out - to the cottage - for the weekend. Can’t wait to see the new & improved DunRoven, and to tackle the very long punch list.
Today marked the end of the spring sport season for us - The JoanneHudson.com Kansas City Royals easily defeated the Philadelphia Phillies! While the Cylax U13 C1 team sufferred a disappointing loss to Collegeville. While we’ll miss playing, I’m sure, we’re all anxious to hit the beach (every week) until the next season starts mid August!
