The Roaring Game

Meagan’s new team is headed to Portage WI for the USCA Junior Womens National Championship! Philadelphia’s FOX 29 took notice and stopped by to interview the team.

Fire In The Hole!

Hot Stuff!
We took a flight to Dallas, this Thanksgiving, to see the relations. It was much colder then we anticipated, but the spicy food kept us warm! We ate far too much of it, but how could we not? It was fantastic. Even though Sam and I are still recovering from the peppers and onions, he is already complaining that our salsa is now too bland!

Good Run

Meg’s team (the Gators) also finished up their season today. Though, they faired slightly better then the Tsunami - they were undefeated!

Tsunami Aftermath

Kate’s team, the Tsunami, played their last game today. It was a season that was marred slightly in controversy - but hopefully the league will learn from their mistakes, and do a better job of balancing teams in the future. That aside, I had a wonderful time coaching the 13 great ladies that made up the team. Go Tsunami!

Happy Halloween!

The stuff that pies are made of
We went to Linvilla Orchard on Sunday to get some pumpkins - it was all you could carry for $19.99. I must admit that I was pretty impressive single handedly carrying 3 giant pumpkins (1 for each kid) and a little one for added affect!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We’re headed North to Wellington ON to meet family, take in a Dukes game (or two), celebrate Thanksgiving, and generally eat far too much! Happy Holidays!

Happy Birthday D.A.D.

Durward Alton Duncan was born on this day in 1865. Happy birthday Granddad!

Doing My Part

Jon and I took a trip into West Philadelphia today at lunch, so that my VW Jetta could take on some recycled sludge! For the next month I’ll be participating in the Philadelphia Fry-O-Diesel pilot fuel study - my car will be running, exclusively on mozzarella stick / calamari smelling B20 formulated by recycling and refining used Philadelphia restaurant trap grease. I’m not going to save the planet by driving around (smelling like french fries), but hopefully the study will lead to better ways of dealing with waste oil and lubricants. Down the road that may also lead to alternate fuels, and less dependence on foreign cartels.

In Passing

The Right Honourable Uncle Jack
John Alton Duncan passed away today. Uncle Jack was a great man - the kind of uncle that every little boy dreamed of having. He was an attorney (Queens Counsel), who later became a federal judge. He was a fireman / chief - who took us for firetruck rides in which ever engine we chose! He had a new car almost every time we saw him. He played with the most amazing model train set that you’ve ever seen. He flew model RC airplanes. Better yet, he flew his own Cessna planes - and took us flying with him. He owned a radio station. He was a phenomenal curler. He was a sportsman. He had a farm and let us believe that we were planting crops for him. He knew just about everything, or made you believe that he did anyways. He was argumentative - for fun. He loved nothing more then to get people fired up about some miscellaneous topic, and then leave them to argue about it. He was my mother’s big brother, the one we always had to check with when we made a big purchase or tried something new. He was my uncle and my kids’ great uncle. He was a wonderful man. I am so very happy that my children got to know him, I just wish that they could have known him as well as I did. We will all miss you tremendously Uncle Jack…

“It’s Alive!”

Muh Ha Ha Ha! Finally, I think, everything is back online. To resolve the missing database (thus no blog) issue, several other issues, and to give me a little sense of security. I migrated all of the key systems and files from a small(ish) RAID1 array to a much larger RAID5 array over the weekend. And, at the same time I upgraded from Fedora Core 4 to 5. While the upgrades went suprisingly well it has taken several days to get everything back online (and configured as they were). Now the server can get back to doing all it’s old jobs as well as some new, high importance tasks - like database replication…
